Gilbert Bailón
Director

Gilbert Bailón, a prominent leader in U.S. journalism, became editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in May, 2012. He had served previously as the Post-Dispatch's editorial page editor and is widely recognized for his service heading two of the most important journalism organizations in the United States.

Bailón started as a reporter at The Dallas Morning News and worked up to executive editor/vice president. In 2003, he became president and founding editor of Al Día, a pioneering local Spanish-language daily. Shortly thereafter, he became its publisher. AlDiaTx.com won a Murrow Award from the Radio Television News Directors Association—the first year this was awarded to a non-broadcast site.

Bailón is past president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, from whom he received the prestigious ñ Leadership Award. He also is past director of the Unity Journalists of Color board and former board member of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education.

He is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the University of Texas.

Bailón worked as a reporter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Los Angeles Daily News, the San Diego Union and the Kansas City Star.
